HOW TO DRAW A FACE WITH THE “THREADS TECHNIQUE”

Hello!

Today I bring you a very powerful technique for advanced sketching.

It is a traditional technique using THREADS.

Why threads?

Because if I start drawing directly on the canvas, it will be filled with graphite, and that will bother me later when erasing it. It will also be troublesome when it’s time to paint.

It is important that after erasing, we always use a thick brush to remove the eraser and graphite residue.

This is more than just a simple grid of thirds.

Divide 3, into 3, and we have 9 sections.

Here’s how it looks:

This will always depend on the size of the canvas you have. I have 35 x 50 cm, but you can calculate the thirds first and then divide accordingly.

The light green represents the main axes.

Then it’s a matter of dividing each section in two or three.

Once everything is in place, we will start drawing carefully. We should try to make the lines not too fuzzy, speaking more about drawing. They should be as clean as possible.

Always refer to the grid we decided to make.

You can make any grid you want; it doesn’t have to be exactly the same one I used.

That is a matter of personal preference.

I usually like to draw more freehand, without too much precision, but I think this artwork requires it.

Let’s make some corrections by carefully looking at it for a second time.

Well, I think we are ready to start painting. Let’s proceed to remove the threads carefully.

Imagine what it would have been like to erase all of this. We would have made quite a mess, I assure you.

This is the classic and traditional way of making this type of grid, with the crossing threads.

If you have any questions about this technique, you can leave your comments at the bottom part of the video, and we will address them immediately.
