FORMULA TO CONTRAST FACES
In this new post, I will show you step by step the FORMULA to contrast faces in your works.
When we consider painting a portrait we must consider the background we are going to do. If the work is going to focus specifically on the face we must make a very simple background so that it does not distract.
In this article, I am going to explain and exemplify how to make a correct background, which is not distracting but at the same time interesting.
We are going to make a cold background so that it contrasts a little with what would be our face.
It is going to be a smooth background, not so textured. We can change the values but we are not going to make a textured background so that it does not detract from the Face.
I made a mixture with cerulean blue, and titanium white and I’m going to add a little bit of toasted sienna to make it a little bit greyer and not so saturated.
Always try as much as possible to cover all the pores of the canvas or the canvas board. Make sure that the oil penetrates well and that everything is even.
Let’s try to get as close as possible to the pencil (it will probably blend in). And if it is necessary to correct, we do it, it is always preferable to go a little bit inside what is our drawing. Later it can be fixed.
We can make the color a little more saturated as we go down so that it is not so monotonous.
I am using a cat’s tongue brush, a bit wore out already. I always use the same brushes because I always work on the same supports.
You get used to what you have.
You will have your brushes and you will adapt to the size of canvas you want.
A little more than sienna ground to finish.
As a last step in the background, we should make the DEGRADE between the tones. The transition is already quite good, but it can be improved.
It is simply a matter of taking a clean, dry brush and blurring the joints.
I hope this article has been very useful to you.
